FAQS 4

Will Dublin Airport have a solar farm?

Dublin Airport is also developing a longer-term solar roadmap to include further phases of the solar farm and allow the airport to meet its 2030 target of 20% of electricity coming from renewable sources. Welcoming the development, Minister O’Brien said that he was delighted to officially open the solar farm at Dublin Airport.

Why should Dublin Airport Invest in solar energy?

He added: “Investing in renewable solar energy and exploring the potential of geothermal sets Dublin Airport up for the future and helps the airport meet its commitment to reducing its emissions by 51 per cent by 2030. I’m delighted to be here with the daa on this really impressive solar farm just short of 30 acres and 15,000 solar panels.

Does Dublin Airport need solar power?

Subject to planning permission, Phase 2 envisages the staged deployment of an additional 6,000 solar panels by late 2027. This is sufficient to fully power the baggage systems in Terminals 1 and 2 and means a further 4% – 6% of the annual electricity needs of Dublin Airport will come from renewable energy generated onsite.

How many solar panels are installed at Dublin Airport?

Dublin Airport’s 9MW solar farm was officially inaugurated yesterday, 7th April 2025, by the Minister of Transport in Ireland, Darragh O’Brien. More than 15,000 solar panels, installed across 28 acres near the south runway, are now generating clean electricity right where it’s needed.
